Gandi : گاندی : Gandi is a 1982 epic biographical film that chronicles the life of Mahatma Gandhi, a key figure in the Indian independence movement against the British Empire during the 20th century. This film is a co-production between India and the United Kingdom, directed and produced by Richard Attenborough, with a screenplay written by John Briley. Ben Kingsley stars in the title role.

The biographical film spans Gandi 's life, beginning with a pivotal moment in 1893 when he is ejected from a South African train for being in a whites-only compartment. It follows his journey through to his assassination and funeral in 1948. The film also portrays Gandi ’s practice of Hinduism and his inclusive approach to other religions, particularly Christianity and Islam.

Gandi  premiered in India on 30 November 1982, followed by releases in the United Kingdom on 3 December and in the United States on 8 December. It was lauded for its historical accuracy in depicting Gandhi's life, the Indian independence movement, and the negative impact of British colonization on India. The film received acclaim for its production values, costume design, and Kingsley's performance.

Commercially successful, Gandi  grossed $127.8 million against a $22 million budget. At the 55th Academy Awards, it received eleven nominations and won eight, including Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Actor for Kingsley. The British Film Institute ranked it as the 34th greatest British film of the 20th century, while the American Film Institute placed it 29th on its list of most inspiring movies.
